About us
Only three universities offer an extensive Art Therapy program. The Centre for Educational and Clinical Art Therapy (CECAT) is committed to contribute to the training in art therapy and presents a solid foundation for those people who may not be able to study with one of the Universities.
With a flexible and engaging style, CECAT's art therapy training courses and workshops provide explanations of theory, demonstrations of techniques and practical experiences. The use of experiential methods and group interactions support an in depth learning process.
Our mission
Education and Training in Art Therapy
Why study with us
Art Therapy is still in its early stages of development in Australia and only four universities offer an extensive program. CECAT is committed to contribute to the training in art therapy and presents a solid foundation for those people who may not be able to study with one of the Universities.
This course offers students, in a group of 6-12 people, an extensive opportunity to experience and learn a range of verbal and non verbal art therapy approaches and therapeutic interventions used in different educational and clinical settings. The focus will be the work with unconscious processes and how they can be utilised in combination with current evidence-based practices.
Theory
Based on an integrated framework including interventions from a psychodynamic, humanistic, spiritual and cognitive behavioural perspective. Art therapy theory, its history and its development are emphasised.
Experience
Involves experiential learning about the therapeutic relationship; projections and countertransferences; giving an ability to reflect intensively on the self and the dynamic of the group, as well as the ability to place learning in a personal and career context.
Practice
Opportunity to show how well modules are understood.
Testimonials
"Art therapy is not just about using art to help you work more effectively with clients but it also allows you to get a greater understanding of yourself in the process"
Lisa Spencer Psychologist
"This course has enabled me to much more fully understand the profound impact that art therapy can offer in the therapeutic process, particularly how the visual image can assist children to tell their story, and how exploration of the picture can reflect inner meaning"
