About us

The Role of The Institute
The Institute seeks to serve the whole of the profession of chiropody. Its members include chiropodists, podiatrists and foot care professionals, employed and self-employed. The Institute certificate of membership is accepted by most employing and licensing authorities, who know that members undertake to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct.

Through its Parliamentary Agents, the Institute maintains a watch on proposed legislation, and has been successful on a number of occasions in obtaining exemption for its members from clauses requiring licensing of practitioners' premises. It is the Institute's policy to keep abreast of all legislative developments, particularly those in the EU, and our agents keep us well informed of pending legislation which might affect the membership.

The Institute is a democratic organisation with the election of officers both local and national being decided annually by members. All members therefore play an active role in their own affairs. The Institute believes a self-governing body should follow an independent line for the progress and well-being of both the profession and the public it serves.

Why study with us

There is a shortage of trained Foot Care Practitioners to treat not only the growing population of older persons, but to increase awareness of the importance of preventing and treating foot disorders.

The course offers the prospect of permanent employment either by becoming self-employed with your own surgery or domiciliary visiting practice, or working for private employers at one of the many multi-disciplinary health and fitness venues in the country.
